3. SWITCH OF THE IMMUNE SYSTEM:
LUNGS + THYROID
Why is it so valuable to activate it?
LUNGS
The heart is the king of your internal organs, and the lungs are the prime minister. The organ of your safety, support, and strength. Healthy lungs help oxygen reach every part of your organism, allowing your immune system to function well and your skin to glow. If your lungs breathe poorly, your heart is also not properly massaged and does not have enough space.
THYROID
The thyroid is the gland of your metabolism and emotions. When your thyroid functions optimally, you express your needs and yourself instead of “swallowing your emotions.” A healthy thyroid ensures that your body maintains optimal weight and properly absorbs nutrients. The parathyroid glands are responsible for calcium absorption and the health of your bones.
The lungs and thyroid belong to the element of metal in Taoist medicine and are the switch most strongly connected with emotions. Metal is “useful” only when it is soft — only then can it be shaped and become valuable. For these two organs it is essential that we open them, breathe into them, and soften them.
If this switch is turned off, we hold a great amount of emotions within ourselves. It becomes difficult to let go, forgive, and live in the present moment. We become strict toward ourselves, blaming ourselves for everything and sabotaging our own growth. We carry the heavy backpack of the past on our shoulders, preventing us from living our potential and freedom. When the lungs and thyroid are open and breathing freely, they bring courage, decisiveness, forgiveness, softness, and abundance.

The health of our lungs influences so many functions of our body. The cleaner our lungs are, the higher the quality of our breath, and the more renewal and oxygen our organs and cells receive. The heart is the king of all internal organs, and the lungs are the prime minister of the entire internal government. And both require enormous care.
The lungs are connected with our emotions. Poor lung function is linked with depression, stagnation, sadness, guilt, and especially the harsh words we say to ourselves when we put ourselves down.
The thyroid, the butterfly gland, is responsible for metabolism — not only the physical metabolism, but also the metabolism of our emotions.
Many women struggle with thyroid issues, and men as well — especially Hashimoto’s and inflammation.
But it is not surprising that so many women experience thyroid problems, because they often arise from women swallowing their emotions. We do not express our needs or what we truly feel. We push everything inside until it finally bursts out in a way that becomes harmful for us and for others.
In this switch we will practice many exercises to truly breathe with full lungs, to cleanse the lungs, and to bring as much circulation as possible to the thyroid.
